Important note:
Anyone visiting the Arctic should realize that all activity in the area is weather dependent! The weather situation may change considerably: Wind, very cold or warm days might suspend operation of some of the excursions. Furthermore a "one of each situation" (limited capacity with few cars, one repair shop, few spare parts etc) might interfere and force us to alter the excursion program. These terms are a part of everyday life in the Arctic and might be a part of the experience when visiting.

EXCURSIONS

Musk Oxen and Reindeer
The world's biggest population of wild Musk Oxen and Reindeer are living in the area surrounding Kangerlussuaq.
The Inland Icecap
Kangerlussuaq is the only place in Greenland from where it is possible to drive by car directly to the gigantic Inland Ice Cap!
Northern Light
The location close to the Inland Ice Cap and approximately 100 miles away from the sea secures an inland and very stable climate: The airport is one of the most weather safe airports in the world and the winter period offers normally little precipitation, which witness a clear sky and splendid opportunities to experience the amazing Northern Lights.
Huskies
As soon as the snow and ice conditions makes it possible, the Greenland hunters from Sisimiut will bring huskies and dog sledges to Kangerlussuaq for the tourists to try shorter tours by dog sled.
Horseback Riding
Kangerlussuaq is able to offer riding excursions on Icelandic ponies. These unique ponies are special fit for this climate, and only on the very cold days, the ponies have to stay in the stables.
Arctic Seasons
The average temperature from beginning of October to end of April is below zero degree Celsius. Specially the period from November to March is the time to experience true Arctic Winterland where the temperature might drop to minus 40 degrees Celsius - but do not worry: The very dry climate makes the feeling of the low temperatures much warmer, our excursion cars are of course heated and genuine arctic fur clothing is available for rent!
The Igloo Hotel
The Igloo has been used by the Eskimos for centuries when they were traveling during winter. In Kangerlussuaq - every year in November - we build the Igloo Village Hotel, where the visitor can have the experience of staying overnight in a real igloo.
The Long Arctic Night
The location north of the Polar Circle means that visitors from mid December to mid January experience the long Arctic Night where the sun does not rise above the horizon! The "day" is not totally dark, but still the feeling of Polar Night is true and exciting. Visitors before mid December and after mid January will experience limited day light.
Hotel Kangerlussuaq
The comfortable tourist class Hotel Kangerlussuaq offers nice rooms with private facilities, mini bar, TV and phone. The hotel also offers a cafeteria, a restaurant and a bar. Furthermore the hotel has taken over the former US-airbase facilities in Kangerlussuaq, which means that an indoor swimming pool, fitness
area, bowling alley and a night club are open for hotel guests.
