Day 1: Arrival in Helsinki
Transfer and check-in to your hotel in Helsinki, the rest of the day is free for you to explore Finland's capital city on your own.

Day 2: The Land of Ancient Heroes
Arrival at Kajaani airport and transfer to Hotel Kalevala.

Days 3 to 8: The Marvel of a True Winter
Take part in activities of your choice. Operation of the tours is subject to a sufficient number of participants.

Day 9: Farewell to Northern Finland
After a week in the peace and quiet of the wilderness, it is time to return to Helsinki, which offers diverse opportunities for cultural entertainment.

Day 10: Homeward-bound
Transfer to Helsinki airport.

Kainuu in easternmost Finland, known for its pristine wilderness, offers a full range of winter activities. This is the region where the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, grew out of heroic tales that had been passed from generation to generation in the form of songs. You will stay at Hotel Kalevala, located in a village of log houses and cabins that all reflect the old Kalevala style. In December the village turns into a scene of Christmas traditions and you may even meet Santa Claus there. Design your own individual holiday by selecting the activities of your choice.

Guided Snowmobile Safaris (Min 5 passengers):
Prices are per person, based on two persons per snowmobile. Appropriate equipment is included in the price.

Tour for beginners, coffee break around a camp fire. About $60

Safari of 2 to 3 hours, coffee break in a wilderness hut. About $80

5-hour safari to a remote wilderness cottage. Coffee break with a picnic meal. About $100

Ride in a horse-drawn sleigh (Min 2 passengers):
Round-trip transfer by car to a horse stable. Sleigh ride through the wintry landscapes including picnic meal. Duration 2½ hours. About $40

Dogsled Safaris (Min 2 passengers):
Round-trip transfer by car to a dog team farm
Learn about the training of the dogs and take part in a dogsled ride.
Half-day safari including picnic meal: About $120

Nordic Skiing School: Learn the traditional style of cross-country skiing in a group (at least 5 persons required). Duration 2 hours. About $10

Cross-Country Skiing Excursions (Min 5 passengers)
Excursion for the less experienced, coffee break around an open fire. 4 hours.

Twilight excursion. Depart at twilight, return when it is dark. Coffee break around an open fire. 4 hours. About $35

Excursion for those with some experience. Transfer by car to the point of departure. A distance of approx. 25 km will be covered in the wilderness. Picnic meal is included. Duration 5 to 6 hours. About $50

Skiing in the wilderness, where there are no tracks.
Transfers and picnic meal included. (Min/Max 4 pax) Duration: 7 hours. About $85

Winter Fishing (Min 2 passengers):
Fishing through a hole in the ice: you will receive instructions at the beginning of your stay and have the equipment at your disposal for independent fishing during the week. About $30

A full-day excursion to a nearby lake, abundant in rainbow trout and lake trout. Fishing through a hole in the ice. Transfers, the services of a guide and a fishing permit are included in the price. About $55
