Hotel Klaus K
Bulevardi 2-4
00120 HELSINKI
Formerly
a business hotel called the Klaus Kurki, it was remodeled in 2005 as a
cutting edge designer property.
All 137 rooms including 2
suites, are provided with state-of-the-art equipment ranging from custom
made beds and mattresses to laptop size safe to oversized robe and towels
to LCD television to high speed internet - wireless and wired.
Room categories playfully range from
Mystical to Passion to Desire to Envy, all describing the emotions that
are depicted from the mythical literature.
Mini-bars are well stocked
with Finnish beer and vodka.
Downstairs there's a
nightclub and bar that's open until 3am at the weekend, as well as three
restaurants, each an asset to the city. Ilmatar serves fine Finnish
cuisine, Filmitähti is more of a burgers-and-steak place and is
decorated with portraits of Finnish film stars (who knew there were so
many?), while Toscanini is a perfect reproduction of a chic Florentine
trattoria. Staff are friendly, fluent in English and extremely
considerate (a disc left behind in the CD player by a previous guest was
immediately posted back to her). Surprisingly for such a modern hotel,
the Klaus K is dotted with references to Finland's mythological epic,
Kalevala. Quotes from the story are woven into the hall carpets, and the
gleaming, white check-in desk is based on the egg from which the world
was born in the legend. Rather than feeling gimmicky or quaint, this
gives the hotel, which would be a success anywhere, a distinctly Finnish
personality. Things will only get better later this year when guests
will have access to the Helsinki Day Spa housed in the same building. |
