Fru Haugans Hotel is situated in the famous old street Sjøgata
in the centre of the town and is of very long tradition. Dating back more than 200 years
it is the oldest hotel in North Norway. In 1794 a farmer´s son and captain obtained the
royal privilege to run a guest house and to do commerce. Fru Ellen Haugan bought the hotel
in 1885 and it has been in the family ever since. In the old and pleasant lounges and
buildings there is a special atmosphere. Salmon- and trout fishing in the beautiful,
spacious grounds. Throughout the years it has been enlarged and modernized. In 1995
considerable modernization work was completed with a large conference centre, new
restaurant, lobby, lift and parking area.
