The castle Hvedholm has belonged to the same family from the time when Funen was an
independent kingdom and up to our century. The building dates back to 1570, but was
rebuilt in its present, majestic style around 1880 by count Bille Brahe Selby. With 5,000
m2 the castle is one of Denmarks largest. The 10 ha park has a few old plane trees
mentioned in some of Hans Christian Andersens fairy tales. There is a magnificent
view to the Funen Archipelago.
The hotel has 120 beds in 7 suites, 23 rooms with canopy beds, 11 standard rooms and 4
"hikers rooms". The a la carte restaurant, specializing in fish and game,
is among the regions finest. The banqueting hall from 1880 seats 150. The
"Mirror Salon" from 1750 seats 110, and annexing small salons are used
for coffee, etc. The castle has 7 conference rooms. Wine cellar and shop are open Saturdays from 12 noon 4 p.m. Groups on appointment. Nearby facilities/activities:
