Sophiendal Gods
Låsbyvej 82, DK-8660 Skanderborg
Sophiendal is one of Denmarks most beautifully located estates on the edge of
Jutlands ridge with its lakes and soft, green hills between Skanderborg and
Aarhus.
From the tower there is a magnificent view to the "Himmelbjerget". Earlier, the
Veng monastery was here, and the neighboring abbey church from 1080 is one of
Denmarks oldest buildings. The present estate building was built in the 1870s
by baron Gottlob Rosenkrantz, and his coat of arms decorating the gable of the farm
building is executed by the sculptor Bissen. The estate has some 400 hectares of farmland
and forestry, and the Knudå (stream), the Veng lake and the eastern part of the Ravn lake
belong to Sophiendal. The major farming and forestry activities are cultivation of plants,
breeding of Angus beef cattle and wild boars, and machine pool services. The forest
produces firewood, timber, decoration greens and Christmas trees.
The hotel has 60 beds in 1 suite, 14 rooms with canopy beds and 10 standard rooms. The
a la carte restaurant in the barons garden room specializes in fish and game, a
great part of which is self supply. The banqueting hall takes 110 covers and the
"Mirror Salon" takes 30 covers. Another six salons are suitable for conferences.
Our shop with wine and handicraft and the wine cellar are open Saturdays 1 4 p.m.
and for groups on appointment.
