The manor house, first grounded by the Viking Ref, is located on the outskirts
of Aalborg. The nearby Sønderholm church is decorated with the symbols from the Viking
Age, and the Gyldenstierne familys genealogical tree painted in 1559 is still
uniquely decorating the choir. In a document from 1314 this family is mentioned as the
owners of Store Restrup. Count Christian Lewetzau was a successful leader in a raid in
Norway against the Swedish in the Great Nordic War. In 1723 he built the present main
building as a stately example of baroque style. At that time, 26 churches were placed under
the estate which was one of Denmarks largest with app. 140 acres. As his winter
residence, the count built one of the present royal castle, Amalienborgs, wings, now
the residence for the Danish crown prince.
The hotel has 108 beds in 1 suite, 19 rooms with canopy beds and 28 rooms in annexes.
The a la carte restaurant in the counts dining room faces the moat, and specializes
in fish, game and desserts. The banqueting hall takes 100 covers. The walls in The
"Tapestry Salon" are decorated with French hunting motifs from the 1820s,
and takes 30 covers.
The "Theater Hall" with terrace, bar, stage and balcony takes 300 covers. The
manor house has excellent conference facilities VIP conference room for 20 persons,
auditorium for 120 persons and 6 group rooms for 16-40 persons. Our shop with wine and
handicraft and the wine cellar under the northern wing are used for wine tasting
arrangements and as a night restaurant. Nearby facilities/activities are golf, put &
take, horse riding and Aalborg with shopping, museums etc.
Special events: Wine cellar/shop open Saturdays 1 4 p.m. groups on
appointment. Christmas program available.
