Sauntehus
Saunte Bygade 50
3100 Hornbaek
Sauntehus is one of Denmark's youngest estates. It was built in 1914 by
the corn merchant Hald. The estate is 'beautifully situated near Hornbaek in North
Zealand, and is surrounded by an exceptional park with rare trees and bushes. The main
building with its majestic tower has a touch of extravagance, and was a stately frame for
the wealthy owner's daily life and festive occasions.
In 1998, Ann and Gorm Lokdam acquired
Sauntehus, restored it and opened it
as a castle hotel with 60 beds and a la carte restaurant for 200 dining guests. The hotel
has several facilities: swimming pool, gym, billiard, ping pong and tennis. Elevator
and rooms adapted for disabled. Flanked by the castles Kronborg and
Frederiksborg, Sauntehus
is situated in a fashionable neighborhood, and the short distance to popular beaches and
golf courses makes this area a well chosen starting point for Zealand's attractions -
Copenhagen's sights are but some 30 minutes' drive away.
