The castle is built on castle mounds dating back to the Viking Age. From the courtyard
there is a beautiful view to the Limfjord, and the North Sea beach at Tranum is only a few
miles away. The present castle builing was built in the 1540’s by Lord High Constable
Erik Banner with drawbridge, serrated gables, embrasures and a moat surrounding the
castle. The Banner family’s coat of arms dates back to the conquest of England in
1016. As a jailer of the later Swedish king, Gustav Vasa, Banner was responsible for the
collapse of the Nordic Union. Later, Kokkedal Slot became the residence for Prince Erik, a
cousin of the Danish king. It is told that Knight Lykke’s pregnant daughter was
immured alive in the castle, and her light footsteps are heard in the corridors from time
to time. Prince Joachim has protected the restoration of the castle.
The hotels has 73 beds in 2 suites, 14 double rooms with canopy beds and 6 family
apartments, the last-mentioned of 50-70 m2 each in a separate building with private
terraces. The a la carte restaurant is one of the best in North Jutland. The banqueting
hall accommodates dinner parties up to 95 guests. The castle has a VIP conference room for
20 persons and an ordinary conference room for 40 persons. The wine cellar and the shop
with Romanian handicraft is open Saturdays 1- 4 p.m. and for groups on appointment.
Family Holidays in Kokkedal Slot
  In a separate wing in the park Kokkedal has 6
apartments furnished with kitchenette, satelite TV, shower/WC and has a living room and 1
or 2 bedrooms. Each has a private, closed terrace. The apartments are particularly
suitable for families with children, and the guests have free access to tennis, badminton,
ping pong, gymnasium, sauna and jacuzzi. Tokens for solarium and laundry are sold in the
reception.
Holidays in Kokkedal Slot offer a wide range of outdoor activities. The North Sea beach
at Tranum is only a few miles away, and the marina at Attrup offers surfing,
sailing, water skiing and angling. Kokkedal Slot is located between two important bird
sanctuaries, "Bygholm Vejle" and "Ulvedybet" with a beautiful view
over the Limfjord. The nearby Øland has a subtropic pool. 18 hole golf courses are found
some 20 km away.
Holidays in Northern Jutland give excellent possibilities for buying fresh food of good
quality for home cooking during the holidays, but you could also save the trouble and dine
in our restaurant.
