Cruise Greenland
GREENLAND:
Greenland is the world's largest island. Its
northerly location, at the point where the Atlantic meets the Arctic
Ocean, means that Greenland is surrounded principally by cold ocean
currents, so the coasts are constantly being
cooled. Combined with the radiation of
cold from the inland ice, this gives Greenland its arctic climate. About half of Greenland’s 55,000
inhabitants live in the large towns along the west coast. Enormous fjord
systems and skerries are typical of the whole region with the Gulf Stream
keeping the seas from freezing over allowing opportunities for boat trips
with a good chance of seeing seals and whales. Kangerlussuaq (Sondre
Stromfjord) is the main airport of the region
having regularly scheduled service from Denmark as well as connections to
other areas in West Greenland. It is the best area to see the Arctic
wild life as
well as the Greenland Ice Cap. It is also a main embarkation
and disembarkation point for passengers
traveling on Greenland’s “Coastal Steamer”. There is quite a
fascination in the mixture of the old and new that now has become part
of Greenland’s landscape. A short bit further north of the Arctic Circle
from Kangerlussuaq is the town of Ilulissat (Jakobshavn) known for its
gigantic icebergs, fast moving glaciers and its location on Disko Bay.
This area is also very historic with isolated settlements dating from
1734 which can still be visited
today. There are not many animals
in this area but bird and fish abound.
Mainly because of the unpredictability of the weather and the short span
of light days, the touring season to West Greenland is shorter than that
of other parts of Greenland.
There are many local excursions to choose
from in West Greenland.
Experience the spectacular Disko Bay and the Inland Ice Cap.
West Greenland is one of the most popular spots to visit.

Kangerlussuaq
has proved not only to be an airport or a gateway into Greenland. The
airport does not look much when arriving from Copenhagen, but the area
actually has much to offer:
Greenland Wild Life: Kangerlussuaq
has become the best area in Greenland to spot Arctic wild life - just a
few minutes away from the hotel you very often can see Arctic foxes,
reindeer and musk oxen!
The Inland Ice Cap: No other
destination in Greenland offers this easy access to the Ice Cap as
Kangerlussuaq - we drive by car directly to the Greenland Ice Cap.
Fantastic weather: The location
approx.180 km inland from the coast makes Kangerlusuaq one of the most
weather stabile tourist destinations in Greenland with lots of sunshine!
Ilulissat - where time to get
familiar with a modern Greenland town north of the Polar Circle and
experience the spectacular Disko Bay:
Calving Glaciers & Gigantic Icebergs:
Gigantic Icebergs are situated in the fjord right
outside the town and are experienced at close range.
